Legal Action Taken Against Four Illegal Taxi Drivers in Phuket

Phuket –

Legal action is being taken against four illegal taxi drivers in Phuket.

The Phuket Land Transport Office (PLTO) reported yesterday (February 6th) that relevant officials set up a checkpoint near the Phuket International Airport in Sakoo sub-district, Thalang.

Two taxi drivers (Green Plates) from Bangkok were found servicing in the area against rules and regulations. Two taxi drivers were also found using personal vehicles to transfer tourists as illegal taxis (Black Plates).

The offending taxi drivers will be fined and their driving licenses will be considered for 90 days of suspension.

The Phuket Express noted ‘Black Plates’ is a term commonly used by the PLTO to call a normal personal vehicle (with a white license plate, ironically) but instead were found being used to transfer passengers as an illegal taxi. Meanwhile, taxis with green license plates can be serviced in provinces where they have been registered only.
