Legal Action Taken Against Seven Illegal Taxi Drivers in Phuket

Phuket –

Legal actions are being taken against seven illegal taxi drivers in Phuket.

The Phuket Land Transport Office (PLTO) reported yesterday (January 31st) that relevant officials inspected an area near the Rassada Pier in the Rassada sub-district, Mueang Phuket.

Five taxi car drivers were found using vehicles to transfer tourists as illegal taxis (Black Plates). Two taxi drivers (Green Plates) from other provinces were also found servicing in the area against rules and regulations.

The Phuket Express noted ‘Black Plates’ is a term commonly used by the PLTO to call a normal personal vehicle (with a white license plate, ironically) but instead were found being used to transfer passengers as an illegal taxi. Meanwhile, taxis with green license plates can be serviced in provinces where they have been registered only.

Those offending taxi drivers will be fined 2,000 baht and their driving licenses will be suspended for 90 days.
