The Standard Chartered Bank House renovation in Phuket town is now 85 percent completed. It is expected to be opened as a new landmark for tourism next month, the Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew told the Phuket Express.
The Sino-Portuguese house is where the Standard Chartered Bank managers lived in the past. The house is located on the Damrong Road in Talad Yai, Mueang Phuket. The house has been renovated to be a new landmark for tourism which tourists can visit. The total renovation budget is 28 million baht.
The Chief of Phuket Public Works and Town and Country Planning Mr. Suwit Pansangiem told the Phuket Express that the renovation has taken almost two years. Now it is 85 percent completed. A little more renovation is still needed inside the house and the surrounding area. The renovation is expected to be fully complete next month.
The Phuket Express noted that the Standard Chartered Bank in the Sino-Portuguese architecture style was the first foreign bank in Phuket opened in 1907. It is now a museum which is located in Phuket Old Town.
