Krabi –

A 280 kilogram dugong was found dead in the Krabi sea.

The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) told the Phuket Express that they were notified of the dead dugong from a local fisherman near the Tha Maprao Bay in the Khao Thong sub-district, Mueang Krabi last night (January 10th).

They arrived at the scene to find the female dugong at 2.5 meters long and weighing 280 kilograms. No wounds were found on the dead dugong. Sea grass was still in the dugong’s mouth.

It is believed that the dugong died not more than 24 hours before she was found. An autopsy is being conducted to find her exact cause of death.
