In Total, 2,440 Road Accidents and 317 Deaths Recorded in Thailand’s ‘New Year’s Seven Days of Danger’

Thailand’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) today (January 5th) reported a total of 241 road accidents, with 253 injuries and 25 deaths, on the seventh day (January 4th) of the ‘New Year’s Seven Days of Danger’ road accidents campaign.

Accidents were mostly caused by excessive speeding (34.85 percent). About 80.24 percent of the accidents involved motorcycles.

48.96 percent of road accidents occurred on national highways. Most accidents occurred between 6:00 P.M. to 5:00 A.M.

The highest number of accidents was in Song Khla (13 accidents). The highest number of injuries was in Kanchanaburi (15 injuries). The Provinces with the highest number of fatalities were Chiang Rai, Roi-Et, Song Khla, Sakaeo, Surat Thani and Udon Thani (2 deaths in each province).

In a total of seven days (December 29th- January 4th) of the Seven Days of Danger, there have been a total of 2,440 road accidents, 2,437 injuries, and 317 deaths.

Surat Thani had the highest number of accidents (79). The highest number of injuries was in Kanchanaburi (81). Chiang Rai has the highest number of fatalities (15).
