Woman Arrested for Stealing from Foreign Tourist on Patong Beach

Patong –

A Thai woman was arrested after she stole from a foreign tourist on Patong Beach.

The Patong Police told the Phuket Express that they have arrested a woman only identified as Ms. Rin, 37, a Phuket local, at Patong Beach yesterday (December 26th). Seized from her was a bag which contained a wallet.

The bag belonged to a male foreign tourist who put it on the beach while he was playing in the sea at Patong Beach.

An unnamed taxi motorbike driver saw the suspect opening the tourist’s bag but she did not take it at first as she saw someone was watching her. Two minutes after she came back again and took the bag before hurrying away. The taxi motorbike driver saw the whole incident.

When the foreign tourist, whose name was withheld by his request, later came back out of the water he realised that his bag was gone. He filed a report to the Patong Police.

Later, the motorcycle taxi driver saw the suspect again and helped to catch the suspect before calling the Patong Police.

The suspect claimed that she found the bag at Kalim Beach near Patong beach and claimed she thought it was abandoned and therefore free to take.

The female suspect is facing charges of theft. The foreign tourist received his bag back but some cash that was in the wallet was gone. It was unclear if the suspect would be forced to repay these funds.
