The Phuket International Airport welcomed a new direct flight from Russia as Russian tourists continue to increase in Phuket and Pattaya.
Our previous story:
Today (November 22nd) at the Phuket International Airport officials and staff welcomed a new direct flight from the Azur Airlines. This is another new direct flight from Vnukovo in Russia to Phuket.
There were in total 335 passengers on the flight who arrived at the airport. They received free souvenirs from the airport.
Thailand has officially stayed neutral in the ongoing Russian and Ukraine war and has not participated in any bans or sanctions on Russian nationals. The process for a Russian national to get a tourist visa is also simple. As a result, Russians have begun to return in force to Thailand becoming the number one tourist group in Phuket and second in Pattaya, just behind Indians.
However, some critics online have questioned how many of the thousands of arriving Russians are actual tourists contributing to the Thai economy and how many are young Russians fleeing fear of being conscripted into the war.
