Phuket Department of Highways plans to build underpass and tramway in Thalang

Phuket —

The Department of Highways plans to build an underpass and tramways at the pier intersection in the Thalang district of Phuket.

The construction costs are anticipated to be 2.36 billion baht. The underpass will have three lanes and go underneath the Thao Thep Krasattri and Thao Si Sunthon’s monument to ease traffic around the Pier intersection, according to Phuket authorities. 1,574 square meters of land surrounding the intersection will be expropriated from nearby facilities to proceed with the project.

The underpass entrance will be at Southeast Asia Cathay Gems Phuket, and its exit will be at Robinson Department Store. The historic monument will not be affected by the construction, Phuket authorities ensured.

After the underpass project is finished, the Highways Department will move on to building tramways, which will enclose the monument and become a new transport infrastructure in Thalang.

The whole project is expected to commence in 2024 and complete in 2027.
