Phuket vegetarian festival officially begins

Phuket –

The Phuket Vegetarian festival has officially begun in which the Thai Public Health Minister joined in a ceremony to launch the event.

Yesterday, (September 25th), the Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul joined in the ceremony at Jui Tui Shirne where the ‘Go Teng’ Pole was raised. The Go Teng pole is the sign of the beginning of the vegetarian festival. Many Thai and Chinese locals and tourists took part in the festival.

The annual Phuket Vegetarian Festival is being held for nine days from September 26th to October 4th.

A “street possession” is conducted every day by every shrine during the festival. The possession offers an opportunity for householders and the general public along the streets to receive the blessing of gods possessing the spirit mediums.
