Phuket Vegetarian Festival officially announced

The annual Phuket Vegetarian Festival was officially announced which will be held for nine days from September 26th to October 4th.

The press conference held yesterday (September 20th) at the Jui Tui Shrine in Phuket Town was led by the Phuket Governor Naroong Woonciew.

The Vegetarian Festival is also known as ‘Jia Chai’. The festival takes place from the 1st to the 9th night of the waxing moon in the Chinese calendar.

The vegetarian festival is documented by the ministry of Culture as an Intangible Culture Heritage in 2018 in the category of Social Practice, Ritual, Tradition and Fetival.

This year the Jui Tui Shrine will celebrate the 111th anniversary of the ‘Peng Yong San Jui Tui Tao Boh Geng’ on September 26th. The ‘Ew Gang’ ceremony or Buddha statue parade will be held around the village from 7:00 P.M.
