 The Kratom Plant Act has been published in the Royal Gazette yesterday (August 26th). Kratom leaves cannot be sold to people aged under 18, breastfeeding women, and pregnant women.
The Kratom Plant Act has come into force from today (August 27th). Kratom plants are now considered a crop to boost the economy.
Examples of some important sections in the Act are:
Section 10: Export or Import of kratom leaves must be given permission from relevant authorities. Violating can lead to up to one year in prison and/or a fine of up to 100,000 baht.
Section 24: Kratom leaves or Kratom as ingredients in food cannot be sold to
1) People aged under 18, breast-feeding women
2) Pregnant women
3) Breast-feeding women
Violating section 24 is a fine of up to 30,000 baht.
Section 25: Kratom leaves cannot be sold at these places below:
1) Educational places
2) Dormitories
3) Public parks, zoos, and amusement parks
4) Vending machines
Violating section 25 is a fine of up to 50,000 baht.
Section 26: Encouraging people with advertising to mix kratom with psychotropic substances is prohibited. Violation is up to two years in prison and/or a fine of up to 200,000 baht.
TPN media noted cough syrup is one of the ingredients used among local teenagers to make a cocktail drug known locally as 4X100 (‘See koon roy in Thai’).
