Kamala residents join tsunami evacuation drill

Kamala –

Kamala residents joined in a tsunami evacuation drill this week.

Yesterday (August 24th) the tsunami evacuation drill was held at Kamala Beach. The drill was launched by the Kathu District Chief Mr. Siwat Rawangkun. Local residents, students, and government staffers joined in the drill.

Mr. Siwat told The Phuket Express, “Kamala is connected to the sea in which our community was damaged from a major tsunami many years ago. We have to prepare and be ready for any situation. The drill yesterday started from a Table Top Exercise (TTX) before the evacuation.”

Mr. Jutha Dumluck, the Tambon Administrative Organisation Chief told the Phuket Express, “This evacuation was successful. In the future we might do the drill at night time too as more tourists are coming in the high season. Hotel operators and tourists will be invited to join in the evacuation drill.”
