The Phuket Por Tor (Hungry Ghost) festival began with a parade in Phuket Town.

The Thai-Chinese Hungry Ghost local tradition in Phuket has started.

A road in Phuket Old Town Road is set to temporarily close for the ‘Por Tor’ (Hungry Ghost) parade.

The annual Thai- Chinese Phuket ‘Hungry Ghost’ or Por Tor festival will be hold in Phuket this month in Phuket Town.

The parade yesterday (August 16th) started from the Golden Dragon statue on Thalang Road. The Phuket Municipality Mayor Mr. Saroj Angkanapilart launched the festival with the parade of red turtle cakes.

Turtles represent good health and long life while red is also the color of good luck to the Chinese.

The parade went to Taew Nam Intersection – Phuket Road – Surin Circle (clock tower) – Bang Naew Intersection – Bang Naew Shrine (holding Por Tor ceremony).
