UPDATE: Security guard charged with murder after patron dies in Phuket night club shooting

Phuket –

A 35-year-old Phuket night club guard has been charged with murder following an armed altercation with a clubgoer earlier this week.

First, our previous story:

The Phuket City Police was notified of the incident yesterday morning (August 1st) at 5:30 A.M. at a nightclub on Bangkok Road in Talad Yai near Saphan Hin.

Now for our updated story:

The Phuket City Police reports the suspect, Mr. Chaiwat ‘ Odd’ Choowong, 35, has presented himself at the scene yesterday morning with his legally registered gun and 14 bullets. He did not, however, have a concealed or open carry permit, although the weapon was legally owned.

He is facing charges of murder, and carrying a gun and opening fire in public without permission.

Odd claims he was acting in self defense when the victim attempted to attack him with a three foot long sword after Odd reportedly told him to stop harassing female customers at the club following alleged complaints.

It is unclear where the sword came from, notes TPN media.

As of press time Odd remained in custody and stood by his statements that his actions were self defense and was planning to fight the murder charges in court.
