Tobacco Products Control Committee proposing to draft regulation on importing and selling cigarettes that contain marijuana substances

Bangkok –

The National Tobacco Products Control Committee is planning to draft a law to ban importing and selling e-cigarettes and cigarettes that contain cannabis and hemp substances.

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul told the Associated Press today, July 22nd, that the committee had followed the order of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha to draft ministerial regulations to cover the ban on manufacturers and importers of tobacco products to sell tobacco products as cigarettes containing cannabis, hemp, CBD, and THC in Thailand.

“This aims to control the inappropriate use of marijuana which is also in line with the medical marijuana policy that does not support recreational purposes,” Anutin stated.

When asked if the ban on marijuana in cigarettes would also include e-cigarettes, the Minister stated that it is already prohibited as the sales of e-cigarettes are prohibited to be imported and sold in the Kingdom.

He added: “The intention of the Public Health Ministry is not to abuse the plants for recreational purposes – only for medical and health purposes. Previously, two similar drafts by the Bhumjaithai Party were also presented at the parliament and are being discussed by the commissioner.”
