Eighteen passengers and two crew members injured after boat from Surat Thani to Chumphon explodes

Eighteen passengers and two crew members have sustained injuries after a passenger boat which was travelling from Tao Island in Surat Thani to Chumphon, Southern Thailand has exploded.

A rescue foundation in Chumphon reports they were notified of the accident at 2:30 P.M. today (July 20th) five kilometers from the shore in Thung Makham Noi, Hard Sai Ree sub-district in Mueang Chumphon district.

Fourteen ambulances from nearby areas arrived at the scene to find 20 injured people who have already been taken back to a nearby beach. Of those 18 are passengers while two were boat crews members

None of them were reported of serious injuries and multiple reports state that some of the people on the boat jumped out from the vessel when the explosion happened.

Police are continuing their investigation to find the cause of accident for further legal action. This is a developing story and it is not yet clear on what caused the vessel to explode. TPN media will continue to provide updates on this story as they come in.
