Phuket –

More than 1.7 million Thai and foreign tourists have visited Phuket which has generated millions of baht in the past five months.

The Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand Phuket Office Ms. Nathasiri Ronnasiri told the Phuket Express, “From January 1st to May 31st this year, there are in total 1,733,119 Thai and foreign tourists who visited Phuket.”

“From this number of tourists has generated a significant amount of baht for the island and boosted the economy overall of Phuket.” Nathasiri stated.

“However, the average hotel check-in occupancy rate is only at 28.27 percent which is still not high. It will take time for tourism to be recovered overall.” Nathasiri cautioned.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand has stated that currently Indian tourists are the largest group of foreign tourists visiting the country and Phuket. Due to regional issues in Russia and China, tourism from those countries remain constrained. Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic both countries represented a significant amount of visitors to Thailand.
