The famous Overlap Stone viewpoint in Samui has been ordered temporarily closed, reportedly for licensing issues.

Today (June 21st), a team of Surat Thani officials inspected the Overlap Stone viewpoint which belongs to a private business owner on Lamai Mountain in the Maret sub-district.

The place was allegedly found with no business operator license and no bridge construction license. As a result, the place was ordered for a temporary closure until proper licenses have been issued.

The inspection came after on January 1st of this year, a female Russian tourist filed a report to the Borpud Police that a caretaker at the view point allegedly attacked her after a viral video argument regarding a dispute over the entry fee of 50 baht. The video drew significant discussion on social media, with differing points of view due to the perceived aggression of the tourist over the fee.

The view point is on a 12 Rai plot of land. An enormous rock is on a cliff with the Samui sea in the background. A bridge is connected with the large rock mass. The entry fee is 50 baht per person.
