Sick sea turtle rescued on beach in Wichit

A sick sea turtle has been rescued at a beach near a hotel in Wichit yesterday (May 23rd).

The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) Phuket Office was notified by a hotel staffer in the Wichit sub-district in Mueang Phuket district that a sea turtle was found on a beach near a hotel.

They arrived at the beach to find the green turtle. It is 49.5 centimeters long and 46.5 centimeters wide. It weighs 10.7 kilograms. The DMCR officials said the turtle was still young and cannot identify its gender.

The turtle was thinner and smaller than it should be. Shipworms and seaweed were found covered on the turtle. Its front and back flippers were injured.

The turtle was taken to the Sireetarn Marine Endangered Animals Rescue Center in the Phuket Marine Biological Center, Cape Panwa in Wichit for treatment and is expected to make a recovery.
