According to the Monsoon Garbage Facebook page, they reported that the black and putrid water had been allegedly released from nearby businesses without any treatment. However, this was not independently verified by The Phuket Express.

As of press time, there had not been an official response from area business owners or government representatives. The pictures and video had been widely shared and discussed on social media, notes The Phuket Express, with significant speculation.
