UPDATE: More details released on 76-year-old German tourist missing since May 9th found alive 15 kilometers from her hotel in Mai Khao, Thalang

Thalang, Phuket –

A missing 76-year-old German tourist who has memory loss issues was found alive but weak in a shallow freshwater canal near the Sirinat National Park in the Thalang district this morning (May 16th) which is about 15 kilometers away from her hotel in the Mai Khao sub-district.

She had been missing since May 9th and was last seen on CCTV, seen below, walking alone on a road near the Sirinat National Park in the afternoon.

Our previous updated story when she was found this morning:

After an eight-day search, Ms. Barbara Lange, 76, from Germany, was found alive by national park officers lying in a small shallow freshwater canel near the Sirinat National Park area at 11:30 A.M. which is about 15 kilometers from her hotel. She was cold, shaken, and weak.

Ms. Lange was rushed to a local hospital for a medical evaluation but is expected to fully recover and has no physical injuries. She was confused and due to her memory issues is reportedly unable to recall the details of her week long disappearance.

It took about two hours to move Ms. Lange out of the canal and through the forests of the Sirinat national park as she was in a relatively remote location that is rarely hiked or walked.

Rescue workers used a litter to transport Ms. Lange through the jungle. The Phuket Governor Naroon Woonciew and Ms. Lange’s relatives were waiting for her outside the forest. They were glad that finally she was found safe against many odds, including nearly eight days missing, presumably in the national park, and without access to supplies or food.

Her relatives accompanied Ms. Lange to a local hospital for a medical evaluation and checkup where she is expected to rest and recover from the past week.

Family members of Ms. Lange thanked national park workers, rescue staff, volunteers, the media, and the Phuket governor for assisting with the rescue and publicity about the situation but also asked for privacy at this difficult time.

In respect of their request, despite pictures widely shared on the Internet, TPN media will not be providing photos of Ms. Lange during the rescue operation.
