All passengers in vehicles must be wearing seat belts and a kids car seat must be provided for children under six years old throughout the journey, according to the amended Land Traffic Act published in the Royal Gazette on Saturday, May 7th.
According to the announcement, drivers must wear a seat belt at all times while driving the vehicle. Passengers in the front and in other seats of the vehicles are now required to wear seat belts at all times as well.
Children under six years old must be sitting in a car seat for children or a specialized seat to prevent injuries in case of an accident while traveling in the vehicle. Passengers who are under 135 centimeters tall must also wear a seat belt or use a special seat at all times to prevent injuries in case of an accident.
Any driver or passenger with a health condition that may prevent them from wearing a seat belt is exempted but an alternative measure must be implemented to secure them throughout the journey.
Violators could face a maximum fine of 2,000 baht. The law is effective 120 days after being published in the Royal Gazette, or from September 4th onwards.
