85 baby sea turtles hatch and head out to the sea in the north of Phuket

Phang Nga –

Eighty-five baby green sea turtles have successfully hatched and headed to their home in the Thai Mueang District, Phang Nga last night (May 5th).

The head of the Khao Lampi–Hat Thai Mueang National Park Phang Nga, Mr. Prarob Plangngam, told the Phuket Express about the successful hatching this morning, May 6th, 2022.

“This is the fourth sea turtle nest this year on a beach in the Thai Mueang district in Phang Nga. Last night at 9:00 P.M., 85 baby green sea turtles were hatched after their mother laid 106 eggs on the beach two months ago on March 14th. The baby turtles took 52 days to hatch. They all headed back to their home in the sea.” Mr. Prarob explained.

Some of the turtles will be tracked by marine officials for their safety, Prarob added, who was also pleased to see sealife returning over the past several years in Phangnga and Phuket, partially due to Covid-19 restrictions that shut beaches and borders for extended periods of time.
