Kathu, Phuket –

The Kathu Municipality held the ‘Suk Jai Naithu’ (Happy Naithu) seafood festival this past weekend in a traditional local style to reflect the original look and feel of Phuket.

The festival was held for two days from Friday (April 29th) until last night (April 30th). Phuket Vice Governor Amnuay Pitsuwan and Kathu Mayor Chaianan Sutthikun officially launched the festival last night.

The festival started with a beautiful parade on the afternoon of April 29th. The parade aimed to present the traditional ways of the original Phuket people which started from the ‘Naithu’ community.

Naithu was the previous name of Kathu but is now still well-known locally as ‘Naithu’, notes The Phuket Express.

The festival had many seafood stalls and local shows on five stages. The festival was aimed to support locals way of life and to boost local tourism.
