Covid-19 preventive measures remain unchanged for Songkran, Thai Covid-19 Center announces

National –

The Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said today, April 8th, after the general meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha, that the current preventive measures would remain the same for Songkran long holiday next week.

As previously announced before by several authorities, public Songkran celebrations of large gatherings for water splashing or foam partying are still strongly prohibited for another year. CCSA spokesperson Taweesilp Visanuyothin said that traditional Songkran celebrations such as family gatherings and pouring water onto elders’ hands to pay respect are encouraged.

This means that drinking and serving alcoholic beverages at SHA plus restaurants in the pilot tourists provinces (the Blue Zone) and the high surveillance areas were still allowed until 11:00 PM. The places must be qualified under the SHA+ or Thai Stop COVID 2-Plus certifications and must strictly be operated under the COVID Free Setting measures.

Bars and entertainment venues continued to be legally closed except for ones that were modified as restaurants under the standard and requirements of the Bangkok/Provincial Communicable Disease Committee.

Dr. Taweesilp also said that the public was encouraged to conduct self-ATK tests before traveling or returning to their hometown to prevent the spread of the disease and the increase of daily infections after the festival.
